This week’s issue of the Monitor features a piece from the African Centre on Migration and Society based at the University of Witswatersrand. This article reflects on the impact of COVID-19 on marginalised populations which include migrants, refugees, asylum-seekers and internally displaced people (IDPs), who have been some of the worst affected during the pandemic.

Still focussing on the impact of the pandemic in Africa, ACCORD’s Marisha Ramdeen discusses the responses of some African states to the third wave of COVID-19 amidst the rollout of vaccines.

We then zoom in on the current COVID-19 situation in Mozambique in a piece from José Berlimo. Staying with Mozambique, Dr Dimpho Deleglise reflects on the Extraordinary Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) held in Mozambique on June 23, 2021. In this piece, Dr Deleglise outlines the issues and options for the SADC Standby Force mission in Mozambique.
