Thobani Khumalo is a researcher and photographer from Eskebheni (Inanda), and was a communications intern at ACCORD. He has 3 years of experience in research, having worked in informal settlements as an ethnographer and being involved in workshops on Stepping Stones and Creating Futures. For the Census 2022, he was the field operations officer for Statistics South Africa. An activist at heart that uses documentary photography to raise sociopolitical issues of water apartheid that persist in rural areas. A member of the photography collective called Contemporary Archive Project. He holds a Bachelor of Social Sciences Honours in Media and Cultural Studies, plus a Master’s in Development Studies, both attained from the University of KwaZulu-Natal. Topics of interest range from gender studies, to visual media for storytelling and conflict mediation.
