Shaun Kinnes holds a BA, postgraduate honours, and master’s degree in international relations from the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa. His research interests include human security in an African context, the climate/conflict nexus, and private military contractors.
Prior to joining ACCORD, Shaun was a 2023 research scholar at the South African Institute of International Affairs. While previously being part of the FW de Klerk Foundation’s constitutional programs team. Shaun has also held the position of sessional lecturer at the University of the Witwatersrand.
Shaun has presented research at major continental conference events such as the 2024 Human Sciences Emerging Scholars Conference, the 2023 African Centre for Economic Transformations annual AERC conference, and the South African Institute of International Affairs Youth, Gender, and Action Conference.
Shaun joins ACCORD as a Junior Research Fellow within the ACCORD Research Department.
