Pravina Makan-Lakha

Advisor on Women, Peace and Security at ACCORD

Joining ACCORD in May 1998, initially as a consultant, Pravina was responsible for the ACCORD Public Sector Conflict Management Programme (PSCMP). In January 1999 she was offered the full time position of managing this Programme and expanding it beyond South Africa to Mozambique. In May 2003, Pravina was promoted to take on the role of Programmes Coordinator at ACCORD, and subsequently assumed the position General Manager: Operations and Business Development, a position that she held until August 2020.

Her qualifications include a four year degree in Social Work from the University of the Western Cape and a Diploma in Business Management from Damelin. She has completed a part-time certificate programme of one year duration each, in Leadership, Administration and Management of Early Childhood Development; and Organisational Development and Strategic Planning with Private Agencies Collaborating Together (PACT). Further, Pravina has completed several short courses on Peace and Conflict, Leadership and Management. She has received Mediation training at CDR Associates in the United States of America and has trained in Conflict Management through the Programme at ACCORD.

Pravina is engaged with the African Women Movement in particular around the areas of Women, Peace and Security.
