Angela Ndinga-Muvumba’s role was to liaise with the University of Uppsala’s Department of Peace and Conflict Research, as part of ACCORD’s partnership with this institution, under the project “From Wars of the Weak to Strong Peace”, where she also carryied out doctoral research on the role of impunity in conflict-related sexual violence.
She was previously a Senior Researcher at the Cape Town-based Centre for Conflict Resolution (CCR) where she led a project on HIV/AIDS and security between 2005 and 2008. Ms Ndinga-Muvumba has also served as a Political Officer in the Bureau of the Chairperson of the Africa Union Commission in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia between 2004 and 2005 and worked with the New York-based International Peace Institute (IPI) between 2000 and 2004. She has served as a consultant for the United Nations (UN) HIV/AIDS and Governance Commission and with the UN Development Fund (UNDP) in New York.
Ms Ndinga-Muvumba’s research expertise was on the impact of HIV/AIDS on African militaries and peacekeeping; the African Union’s establishment and evolution; the concept of human security; gender and sexual violence; and currently, the impact of amnesty regimes on post-conflict societal transitions. She has published a number of scholarly articles and chapters. She was co-editor of the volumes The African Union and Its Institutions (Jacana Media 2008), and HIV/AIDS and Society in South Africa (UKZN Press 2008).
