What’s next in Peacebuilding?

QUNO

Annual gathering of peacebuilding organisation leaders to reflect on topics of concern to the peacebuilding community around the world.

Every year the Quaker UN Office of the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) hosts a small, off the record gathering of leaders of peacebuilding organisations – heads of agency or heads of policy – in a forward-looking event that called “What’s next in Peacebuilding?”.

The Quaker Office hosted this year’s “What’s Next in Peacebuilding?” gathering from 19 to 20 June 2017 in New York.

ACCORD has participated in the event for the past few years and was invited to the event once again. Charles Nyuykonge, Senior Researcher: Knowledge Production Department, represented ACCORD at the event.

The prevention topic loomed large, as well as continuing discussions on how the peacebuilding field can increase their impact, and an update discussion on the lessons emerging from study on youth, peace and security. In the informal atmosphere of Quaker House in New York, the group reflected on topics of concern to the peacebuilding community that are rising in their work in policy centres around the world. A particular feature of this group was the presence of the major peacebuiling consortia – the Alliance for Peacebuilding in DC, the Geneva Peacebuilding Platform, and the European Peacebuilding Liaison Office in Brussels.
