ACCORD

From Capacity Strengthening to Policy Awareness.

On 11 May 2023 ACCORD held a capacity strengthening session for local South African women peacebuilders to unpack and understand the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 in the context of South Africa. The session placed emphasis on key elements of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 and South Africa’s National Action Plan (SANAP) on Women, Peace and Security (WPS). Through interactive discussions, presentations, and case studies, participants gained insight on the importance of gender equality and women’s participation in peace processes.

Peacebuilding, gender equality and conflict resolution expert Ms Alison Lazarus facilitated the session where participants explored strategies and approaches to effectively implement the elements of Resolution 1325 within their own communities. In closing the session, Ms Lazarus assigned the task of refining their individual organisation’s vision, mission and objectives, and left the women with some guidelines on how they could implement UNSCR 1325 and SANAP in their communities. These action plans will be presented during the next session.
