The Training for Peace (TfP) Programme at ACCORD, in its capacity as holder of the Presidency of the African Peace Support Trainers’ Association (APSTA) for 2009, hosted the 7th APSTA Annual General Meeting (AGM) from 18 – 19 February 2010 in Durban, South Africa.
The AGM deliberated on a number of proposals for the revitalisation of APSTA. More specifically, it discussed, inter alia, a constitution for the association, roles, functions and obligations of member institutions, the secretariat and the Presidency. Also, the formation of a committee was proposed to oversee and support the coordination of the activities of both the Secretariat and the Presidency. These discussions aimed to create improved modalities for collaboration and coordination, both amongst member institutions, as well as between APSTA, the African Union (AU) and other external stakeholders and partners.
The AGM also formally welcomed the African Civilian Capacity Response for Peace Support Operations (AFDEM), the Cairo Centre for Training on Conflict Resolution and Peacekeeping in Africa (CCCPA) and the Nigerian Army Peacekeeping Centre (NAPKC) as new members at the Association. It also confirmed the selection of the International Peace Support Training Centre (IPSTC) as the holder of the Presidency for 2010.
