On 24 February 2009 ACCORD hosted a small group from the Swedish Defense Research Agency, who met with ACCORD to discuss mutual areas of research and collaboration on Africa’s Peace and Security Architecture.
Over the years ACCORD has worked with the Swedish Defence College on training courses related to ACCORD’s Peace and Security Unit. In December 2006 Vasu Gounden, the Founder and Executive Director of ACCORD, was one of three African analysts/commentators invited by the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs to be a resource person at a roundtable discussion on the new Swedish Policy for Global Development, to give a perspective from the South. In 2007 Mr. Gounden participated in a number of pre-meetings that were hosted by the Swedish Embassy in Pretoria in preparation for the bi-lateral Security Sector Reform (SSR) and Governance Meeting which was held in Sweden in October 2007. Mr. Gounden was also a resource person at this meeting.
