ACCORD conducted a Strategy Planning Session from 17-23 July 2009 in Bujumbura, Burundi for nine staff members of the Office for Strategic Studies and Development, also known as the Bureau d’Etudes Stratégiques et de Développement (BESD). BESD is located within the Office of the Presidency of the Republic of Burundi and was established as a structure to advise the Government of Burundi on strategies to manage ongoing crisis and to maintain coherence in policy making and implementation.
Pursuant to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between ACCORD and the Presidency of the Republic of Burundi, ACCORD’s role is to strengthen the capacity of BESD by providing oversight, training, and facilitation of strategy development for the staff of BESD. The Strategy Planning Session was a follow up activity to one held in Durban, South Africa in June 2009 for BESD staff members. The Session was chaired by Dr. Alioune Sall of the African Futures Institute and focused on skills for strategic planning.
