ACCORD had the privilege to attend a seminar organised by the Faculty of the Royal Danish Defence College and the Security Institute for Governance and Leadership in Africa (SIGLA). The seminar entitled: “On South Africa’s Role in Relation to the African Peace and Security Architecture”, which focused on the status and future of the African Stand by Force (ASF), the implementation of the Political Bargaining Game and the lessons Learnt from South African National Defence Force (SANDF) experience in the Central African Republic (CAR) and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
During the seminar, ACCORD presented on the Civilian Dimension of the ASF. The seminar experienced a lively exchange of views allowing the participants to collectively agree on the need for academics and practitioners to regularly come together and engage on these important matters. Participants applauded SIGLA for organising the seminar and urged the organisation to arrange more engagements in the future. The seminar agreed that such academic discussions should find their way to the public through publications. The inputs and papers presented at the seminar will be disseminated as a publication.
ACCORD/TfP was represented through the participation of the General Brig. James Machakaire, Coordinator of the Peacekeeing Unit.
