ACCORD’s TfP Programme’s Senior Programme Advisor, Cedric de Coning, is attending a Southern African Development Community Workshop on Peace Operations. The theme of the workshop is “The Challenges of Peacekeeping Training in the SADC Region"
and it will take place from 3-5 December at the SADC Regional Peacekeeping Training Centre (RPTC) in Harare, Zimbabwe.
The aim of the workshop is to exchange information on peacekeeping issues, and training in particular, with a view to informing planners, trainers and decision-makers on strategies and current trends in peacekeeping training. This will assist in preparing peacekeepers from the SADC region for SADC, African Union and United Nations missions. Specifically, the workshop will look at ways of improving the quality of training and the implementation modalities of the SADC Brigade training, and will discuss current and future training requirements and capabilities. The workshop will be attended by officers from the SADC Secretariat, Planning Element, and Early Warning Unit, representatives from Member Sates, United Nations, AU, military and civilian institutions focusing on peacekeeping training, military attaches and former Special Representatives of the Secretary General and Force Commanders.
