Building closer collaboration and coordination between the African Union and its partners.

From 12–14 June 2024, the African Union (AU) Post Conflict Reconstruction Development (PCRD) Centre, held a three-day engagement with the AU- Economic, Social and Cultural Council (ECOSOCC) Secretariat, Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) Secretariat & the Regional Psychosocial Support Initiative (REPSSI) in Lusaka, Zambia. ACCORD was in attendance, to raise awareness on the adopted revised AU PCRD Policy (2024) towards building closer collaboration and coordination amongst the African Union and its partners.

The engagements explored ways of harnessing contributions from partners and Civil Society Organisations, in the realisation of peace, security and development in Africa. This exercise incorporated the development of a draft joint action/work-plan, that will be finalised and implemented between the years 2025 to 2027.

The PCRD policy was last reviewed and adopted in 2006. The recent review of the policy was prompted by the need to ensure that it responds to the emerging peace and security challenges on the Continent, incorporating a peacebuilding component to cover the entire conflict cycle and countries in political transition.

This Desk-to-Desk Engagement by the PCRD Centre is one out of many that occurs in 2024, in efforts to enhance collaboration, coordination and partnerships in the advancement of the revised AU PCRD Policy. The next engagement is scheduled for Cairo, Egypt.

These engagements are in alignment with ACCORD’s efforts to enhance institutional responses of the AU to complex conflicts, and its efforts to strengthen the role of multidimensional stakeholders in addressing and resolving complex conflicts.
