The Founder and Executive Director of ACCORD, Vasu Gounden, recently attended the the International Advisory Board (IAB) meeting for the Training for Peace in Southern Africa (TfP) Programme, which was held from the 8-10 June in Northern Norway.
The meeting brought together senior Royal Norwegian Foreign Ministry staff as well the Executive Directors of the partner institutes which, in addition to ACCORD, included the Institute for Security Studies (ISS), the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre, and the Norwegian Institute for International Affairs (NUPI). IAB members present included H.E. Ambassador Francis Deng (UN Special Adviser on the Prevention of Mass Atrocities and Genocide), H.E. Ambassador Daudi Mwakawago (the former UNAMSIL Special Representative of the UN Secretary General), and Professor Ramesh Thakur (Research Fellow, Centre for the International Governance Association, Canada).
The meeting provides an opportunity to discuss the short and long term strategies for the programme, while at the same time receiving advice and guidance from the IAB members.
