Former US Ambassador to Burkina Faso visits ACCORD

On 21 October 2008 H. E. Ambassador J. Anthony Holmes visited ACCORD House. Ambassador Holmes is the Cyrus Vance Fellow in Diplomatic Studies at the Council on Foreign Relations in the United States (US), where he focuses on Africa and directs the Roundtable Series on African Policy Issues.

 Ambassador Holmes is the former US Ambassador to Burkina Faso and over his twenty nine year foreign service career has worked in Zimbabwe, Kenya, Egypt, Syria, Singapore and Sweden, as well as being the Director of the Africa Bureau’s Economic Policy Office, the Deputy Director of the State Department’s Office of Sanctions Policy and the President of the American Foreign Service Association.

While at ACCORD Ambassador Holmes had a meeting with the Founder and Executive Director of ACCORD, Mr. Vasu Gounden, along with Mr. Tor Sellstrom (Senior Advisor, ACCORD) and Professor John Daniel from the Human Science Research Council (HSRC) to discuss generally events on the Continent and South Africa in particular. In the afternoon Ambassador Holmes then conducted a presentation for ACCORD Staff on the topic “Perspectives on US-Africa Policy under a new US President”.
