ACCORD through the Training for Peace Programme (TfP) continues to provide technical support to the African Union (AU) in partnership with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ) and German Center for International Peace Operations (ZIF) in ensuring effective and efficient operational capability of the African Standby Capacity (ASC) rapid deployment tool.
The coaching and mentoring workshop was specifically organized, on 12-16 February 2018 in Nairobi, Kenya, for the Eastern Africa Standby Force Secretariat following the recent appointment of the new Roster Focal Point within the Region. The coaching aim was to comprehensively equip the new Focal Point (FP), the Human Resource Officer and the Training Focal Point with all the necessary guidelines and skills to enable them to continuously manage and populate the Rostering within the EASF Region and to be able to use it for recruitment when the need arises. The training covered all component aspects of the roaster namely: Introduction to ASC; Principals of ASC selection criteria; Workflows; Database; CV screening and selection for interviews and preparation of candidates for the Civilian Foundation Course.
The participants also gained an understanding of the African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA) and the African Union (AU) Peace Support Operations. The discussions further emphasised the need for strengthened collaboration amongst regional rostering officers and training institutions.
