From 11 – 31 August 2022, ACCORD’s local peacebuilders conducted their very own Community Teach in Sessions across the nine provinces of South Africa. This formed part of the ongoing capacity strengthening initiative for women led NGO’s and CBO’s aimed at strengthening local and national early warning, and conflict prevention mechanisms, supported through the empowerment of women leaders.
Throughout the past year as well as 2022, we have witnessed conflict situations shifting from national and regional levels, to local level. The Community Teach-in sessions provided a platform for the women peacebuilders to facilitate their own in-person training sessions, sharing their knowledge gained with work colleagues and community members from the respective provinces. Drawing on current conflicts within their operational areas, the women peace builders covered topics such as, applying conflict analysis to the contestation of the Zulu King; feminist leadership and the importance of good leadership and governance; and peace building through resource mobilisation.
ACCORD seeks to enhance the role of these local women involved in peace processes, equipping them with the necessary skills and expertise to be able to manage conflict effectively and contribute towards sustainable development and peace within their communities. The main outcome of this activity was to ensure that the project objectives are expanded through a more in-depth application of skills – shifting from the theory and concepts to the practical experience
