In preparation for elections starting 21 May, the ACCORD Burundi Intervention Unit will hold a conflict management training and dialogue session for youth leaders and security forces from the Western provinces of Burundi from 10-13 May 2010 in Bujumbura, Burundi.
The training and dialogue session for participants from Bubanza, Bujumbura Mairie, Rurale, Cibitoke, Muramvya and Mwaro will build peaceful interaction between youths and security forces and is geared towards the conduct of conflict-free elections.
The elections in Burundi begin on 21 May with local government (communal) elections. This will be followed by the presidential election on 28 June while the election to the house of deputies will take place on 23 July.
The training and dialogue will be conducted with support from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Lead trainers will be the ACCORD Deputy Director, Mr Jerome Sachane, and the Burundi Intervention Senior Programme Officer, Mr Adelin Hatungimana.
