The Training for Peace (TfP) Programme at ACCORD’s Senior Programme Officer, Yvonne Kasumba, will participate in a meeting entitled “Civilian Protection in Africa: A Dialogue” from 13-14 February 2007. The meeting will be hosted by the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue (CHD) in Nairobi, Kenya.
The CHD recently launched a project that serves to consolidate various efforts being made to protect conflict-afflicted civilians on the continent. The purpose of the meeting will be to review the project and its impact. It will also discuss current challenges to protection, and look at potential solutions. The meeting will country-specific sessions, which will focus on challenges in Somalia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Darfur and the Central African Republic (CAR), and will draw out lessons learned from these operations.
