The workshop aimed to further develop the UNMIS Civil Affairs Division conflict management strategy in South Sudan. ACCORD was invited to present the initial findings of an extensive six-weeks of field research undertaken at the request of the UNMIS/CAD. The research in July and August earlier this year entailed visiting CAD operations in outlying areas and meeting with both United Nations and local actors to develop a complete picture of the CAD conflict management initiatives in South Sudan.

The initial findings of the study provide a substantive assessment of CAD’s conflict management capacity and will inform recommendations for a post-referendum Mission.
