Collaborating and strengthening partnerships to advance the global agenda on UNSCR 1325

In October 2020, ACCORD was appointed as a Board Member of the Global Compact on Women, Peace and Security and Humanitarian Action (WPS-HA) in the context of the 25th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and the Generation Equality Forum (GEF), as well as the 25th anniversary of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 (UNSCR 1325).

ACCORD, is represented on the board by Mrs Pravina Makan-Lakha in her capacity as Advisor on Women Peace and Security. Ms Makan-Lakha and Ms Marisha Ramdeen Programmes Co-ordinator participated in the Annual Board Meeting of the WPS-HA, which took place virtually on 7 March 2025. The meeting recognised the outgoing Co-chairs, Norway and the Global Network of Women Peacebuilders (GNWP), and welcomed Namibia as the Compact’s new Board Chair and to discuss priorities for this pivotal year.

The discussions primarily focused on the key messages related to the 25th anniversary of UNSCR 1325 and how the Compact will commemorate this milestone. Strengthening collaboration is crucial for the Compact, especially given ongoing resource challenges. Additionally, the conversations addressed the Accountability Report for 2025. ACCORD will continue to advise and provide strategic guidance to the Compact, as well as continue its efforts to strengthen the role of women in conflict prevention; that is a key outcome of the WPS agenda.
