ACCORD participates at validation meeting for South Africa’s National Action Plan on Women, Peace & Security

ACCORD was invited to take part in the validation process and will provide inputs to what will be SA’s first National Action Plan on WPS.

On 02 August 2019, the National Steering Committee (NSC) on Women, Peace and Security convened a multi-stakeholder workshop to validate the Draft National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security (WPS). The NSC is constituted by the South Africa Department of Defence, represented by Hon. Minister Ms Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, the Department of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, represented by Hon. Minister Ms Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, and the Department of International Relations and Cooperation, represented by Hon. Minister Dr Naledi Pandor, and representatives from civil society.

ACCORD was invited to take part in the validation process and at the request of the NSC and will provide inputs to what will be South Africa’s first National Action Plan on WPS. The meeting took place amongst renewed calls from the UN Secretary-General urging the UN Member States to develop and adopt National Action Plans in compliance with United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1325.
