ACCORD has been invited to the Independent Electoral Commission briefing on the 2009 elections in South Africa. The briefing is to take place in Pretoria on the 21st of January and will be attended by Dr Shauna Mottiar, senior researcher in ACCORDs Knowledge Production Department.
The upcoming elections in South Africa are significant to the scope of ACCORDs thematic work on peace building in Africa. Furthermore, given that elections in South Africa have, in the past, been the cause of significant violence and conflict (in the province of KwaZulu-Natal particularly) ACCORD will be engaging with possible fault lines for conflict and peace building in South Africa.
