On Thursday, 3 October 2024, ACCORD hosted a delegation from the School of International Training (SIT). The delegation, led by Dr. Imraan Buccus, the Academic Director of the SIT Programme in South Africa, comprised nine students. The focal theme of the visit was “International Relations in the Global South.”
During the visit, colleagues from the Programmes Unit and the Research Unit delivered presentations on ACCORD’s work on the continent. These presentations encompassed the vision and work of ACCORD, as well as the five Strategic Pillars that guide our interventions. Additionally, presentations on the Research Unit and the Peace and Support Operations (PSO) cluster were featured.
The engagement with the SIT delegation prompted thought-provoking questions and insightful comments, enriching the discourse. Notable remarks from the group included an appreciation for the discussions on youth, peace, and security in Africa, as well as an understanding of the relationship between the African Union (AU) and the Regional Economic Communities (RECs).
The primary objective of the SIT programme is to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to become culturally adept leaders, professionals, and global citizens. This is achieved through field-based academic study abroad programs for undergraduates, accredited master’s degrees, and certificate programs for graduates and professionals.
ACCORD is committed to providing a conducive environment for the growth of young researchers and political enthusiasts. Our mission is to support their educational and creative processes while remaining receptive to the insights of emerging leaders.
The longstanding partnership between ACCORD and SIT has proven mutually beneficial, with several SIT students having the opportunity to undertake internships at ACCORD over the years.
