On 04 January 2024 ACCORD hosted a Sudanese delegation in Pretoria, South Africa, which was led by Lieutenant General Muhammad Hamdan Dagalo, the Commander of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The delegation was received by ACCORD’s Founder and Executive Director, Dr. Vasu Gounden. The engagement allowed for a productive exchange of ideas and strategies aimed at advancing the Sudan Peace Process.
As part of the visit the delegation met with His Excellency President Cyril Ramaphosa. The meeting with the South African President provided an opportunity for high-level discussions on the current status of the Sudan Peace Process and avenues for enhanced cooperation.
The visit was part of ACCORD’s ongoing contribution to the Sudan Peace Process, that has included the hosting of the former Sudanese Prime Minister, Dr Abdalla Hamdok, in November 2023. ACCORD remains steadfast in its dedication to facilitating dialogue, building partnerships, and contributing to the Sudan Peace Process. The visit by Lieutenant General Dagalo signifies a step forward in fostering collaboration among key stakeholders, with the shared goal of achieving lasting peace and stability in Sudan.
