The ACCORD Peacebuilding Unit’s African Peacebuilding Coordination Programme (APCP) recently organized and conducted a Peacebuilding Workshop in collaboration with the Liberia Peacebuilding Office under the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Liberia. The activity took place from 1-5 March 2010 and brought together a cross section of 26 participants from key regions in Liberia.
The five-day training set out to promote coherence and coordination among the various stakeholders. It also succeeded in providing a platform where additional experiences were shared that served to enhance the understanding of peacebuilding.
Training activities were aimed at enhancing the skills of various actors involved in the peacebuilding process in Liberia. Participants were taken through sessions on understanding conflict and conflict phases, natural resource management and conflict, regional peacebuilding, gender and peacebuilding and actors in peacebuilding.
“Not only did participants part with a more enhanced concept about peacebuilding and what it entails, the ACCORD team parted with greater knowledge of Liberia’s customs and community dynamics” says Martha Bakwesegha, Programme Officer in the Peacebuilding Unit.
