Supporting creative educational processes.

On Thursday, May 16, 2024, ACCORD hosted a delegation from the School of International Training (SIT). The delegation included 14 students and 2 faculty members from Furman University in South Carolina, USA. The faculty members present were Dr. Brandon Inabinet, Professor of Communications Studies, and Dr. Bronwen Forbay, Associate Professor of Voice. Dr. Imraan Buccus, the Academic Director of the SIT Programme in South Africa, accompanied the delegation. The aim of the SIT programme is to prepare students as future inter-culturally competent leaders, professionals, and citizens. The programme achieves this by offering field-based academic study abroad programmes for undergraduates, accredited master’s degrees, and certificate programmes for graduates and professionals.

ACCORD takes pride in creating spaces for young researchers and political enthusiasts to thrive. The organisation’s mission is to support their educational and creative processes, while remaining open tfo the wealth of knowledge yet to be gained from young leaders.

During the visit, several colleagues from ACCORD’s Programmes and Research Departments presented to the group on the work that the institution does on the continent. The presentations covered topics such as enhancing multi-dimensional approaches to complex conflicts, preventive action and mediation, women, peace and security, peace support operations, as well as the research component of ACCORD’s work.

Ms. Lynda Forkwa, a Junior Research Fellow at ACCORD, presented on her home country, Cameroon, covering its history, culture, economy, elections, and politics.

The students raised thought-provoking questions and made insightful comments that deepened the conversation. The relationship between ACCORD and SIT spans many years and has been mutually beneficial for all involved. Several SIT students have had the opportunity to intern at ACCORD over the years of collaboration.
