The African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), operating under the auspices of the New Partnership for African Development (NEPAD), is celebrating its tenth anniversary. The APRM has consistently charted the progress, challenges and opportunities African countries face in promoting democratic consolidation, good governance and socio-economic development. In its tenth year, it is self-reflecting on the milestones it has achieved, the challenges inherent, and the opportunities ahead.
The anniversary’s theme is, “Popularising the African Peer Review Mechanism.” In doing so, it has tasked its Government National Councils (GNCs), civil society organisations and media outlets affiliated to it to undertake activities during the week of 09 March 2013 that will highlight its work through the breadth of the African continent.
In that spirit, the African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (ACCORD), in association with the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN)’s Debating Union, with an expert guest speaker from the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO), is proud to host the “APRM Debate”, scheduled to be held at the UKZN’s Howard College Theatre on 06 March 2013, from 12h00 to 15h00. Through this activity, these stakeholders also seek to empower African youth in knowledge production and assessment.
ACCORD and the UKZN Debating Union are proud to convene this event ahead of South Africa hosting the Fifth BRICS Summit, while chairing the AU Commission as the body celebrates its 50th jubilee.
