ACCORD Burundi conducts training for youth

From 28-30 November 2006 the African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (ACCORD) Burundi Programme conducted a basic conflict management and family law training for 20 representatives from a local Burundi coalition of youth organizations called CPAJ.

The training was conducted in Kirundi (the local language) at the ACCORD Office in Bujumbura, Burundi as a response to a request made by CPAJ.

The aim of the training was to provide participants with conflict management skills and an understanding of family law that will assist them in the prevention of conflict – as well as the management of disputes that might arise in their daily lives and work environment. In recent years the leaders of Burundi have had to walk a difficult road to peace; today they walk another difficult road of reconstruction and development. The support of the youth is needed in order to walk this road successfully. In addition the youth of today will inherit the future of the country – it is therefore essential to ensure they are adequately prepared to lead a prosperous and successful nation.

Feedback on the training was highly positive, and further training by ACCORD has been requested.
