On 15 April, ACCORD attended the second steering committee meeting convened virtually. The Steering Committee Members acknowledged how COVID-19 disrupted the way of doing things to the new normal. The meeting aimed to take stock of the various initiatives led on the continent by the women, foreign ministers, the African Union (AU) women gender directorate and partners in 2020.
The meeting also reflected on the AU’s 2021 theme for the year – “Advancing Africa’s Commitment to Gender Equality and Women’s Rights through Arts, Culture and Heritage”. The meeting emphasised the need to create an enabling environment for women to play more decision-making roles in peacebuilding and conflict resolution, including the structural challenges women face. Additionally, the meeting reflected on the need to celebrate 20 years since the formation of GIMAC.
Mrs Karishma Rajoo, General Manager of Operations, and Ms Nontobeko Gcabashe Operations Programme Officer represented ACCORD.
