Collaborating on strategy and project development

On 17 March 2025 the Korea-Africa Foundation, based in Seoul, the Republic of Korea, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ACCORD. The MoU formalises the commitment from both organisations to collaborate on developing and supporting strategies and projects in areas of mutual interest.

Over the last few years ACCORD has undertaken several activities related to the Republic of Korea. This has included a webinar in 2022 that reflected on Korea’s Economic Experience, and a seminar in 2023 that reflected on the Republic of Korea’s efforts for Just Energy Transition (JET) and the implications for African Countries. Both the webinar and the seminar were hosted in collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in South Africa. In 2022 the Founder and Executive Director of ACCORD, Dr Vasu Gounden, travelled to Seoul to participate in a programme hosted by the Korea-Africa Foundation. In December 2023 Dr Gounden made two virtual presentations: one as part of the the 6th Seoul Dialogue on Africa, hosted by the Korea-Africa Foundation and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea, on “African Political Dynamics: Trends and Prospects”, as part of the session themed—Harmonizing Horizons: Charting Peace and Security in Africa; and one for the Seoul National University’s Africa Seminar Series on the topic “Africa @ the Crossroads of History: A Dystopian or Prosperous Future?”. In 2024 ACCORD signed a MoU with Seoul’s National University’s Asia Centre.

The Korea-Africa Foundation is a special corporation under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Korea that was launched in 2018. Its purpose is to conduct long-term and comprehensive research and analysis on African countries, and to promote partnerships on the Continent in various fields such as politics, economy, culture, and academia.

ACCORD looks forward to collaborating with the Korea-Africa Foundation in the future.
