35 graduate at third East African CIMIC course

Major General JN Mutwii, Deputy Commander of the Kenyan Army, presented CIMIC certificates to 35 participants who had successful completed the third East African CIMIC course. The course was hosted by the Peace Support Training Centre (PSTC), GTZ and ACCORD, as part of the Finnish-funded African Civil-Military Coordination (ACMC) programme, from 4-15 September 2006 in Nairobi, Kenya.

 The aim of the course was to train civilian, police and military CIMIC officers and instructors from East Africa.

A total of 35 participants from 9 nations attended the course. Speaking at the graduation, the General reminded the graduates that as ambassadors of the ACMC Programme, they should carry out their newly acquired skills from the course with diligence, dedication and professionalism. After graduation, the participants went back to their various organisations and countries, where some are expected to be employed as CIMIC instructors, whilst others may be deployed to UN or AU peacekeeping operations as CIMIC officers over the next few months. Since 2004, the ACMC programme as trained more than 450 CIMIC officers and instructors.
