TFP/ACCORD participates in Exercise AMANI Africa Planning Meeting

On request by the African Union (AU) Peace Support Operations Division (PSOD), TfP/ACCORD participated and represented the civilian dimension of the African Standby Force (ASF), in a planning meeting for Exercise AMANI Africa from 12 – 13 March 2009 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

This was in line with the ASF Roadmap and Training Implementation Plan developed in October 2007 which outlined the major activities that are to be conducted prior to the operationalisation of the ASF. One of these activities is a continental exercise to be undertaken in 2010, aimed at validating the ASF process so as to assess the mechanism’s state of readiness followed by a report on its effectiveness to the AU Summit in July 2010.

The TfP Programme was able to share its capability and experience with the experts gathered at the AMANI planning meeting on how to effectively integrate the civilian dimension into the plans that are already underway for the military and police dimensions of the exercise.
