ACCORD’s Burundi Office conducted a capacity-building training in election-related conflict management for COSOME (Coalition de la Société Civile pour le Monitoring des Elections) and ABR (Association Burundaise des Radiodiffuseurs) from 8-10 July 2009 in Bujumbura, Burundi.
The training was facilitated by the Deputy Director of ACCORD, Mr. Jerome Sachane, with support from Mr. Adelin Hatungimana, a Senior Programme Officer based at ACCORD’s Bujumbura Office. The training was officially opened by the President of the Burundi National Independent Electoral Commission (CENI), Mr. Pierre Claver Ndayicariye.
The training aimed to impart conflict management skills with a special focus on the management of election related conflict. The training is expected to assist participants in playing a constructive role towards the prevention of election related conflict, as well as the management thereof, should there be a need before, during or after the 2010 general elections in Burundi.
