Hon. Commissioner Nancy Boxill visits ACCORD

On 24 February 2009 the Hon. Commissioner Nancy Boxill, a Board member of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research’s (UNITAR) International Training Centre for Local Authorities in Atlanta (CIFAL Atlanta) visited ACCORD House. Commissioner Boxill is the County Commissioner and Chair of the UNITAR-CIFAL Atlanta Global Leadership Initiative on Gender Equality in Cities.

Commissioner Boxill was in South Africa during February to learn more about best practices in gender equality and governance. CIFAL trains government and civil society officials on the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

ACCORD has continued to work towards gender mainstreaming on the Continent over its 17 year history and besides a gender programme, has ensured that all its activities have a gender focus. ACCORD has worked with a variety of eminent organizations which has included Femmes Africa Solidarité (FAS), Women Waging Peace, and the Foundation for Community Development (FDC) on gender mainstreaming. Through ACCORD’s Peace and Security programmes ACCORD has worked with a number of United Nations agencies, including UNITAR.
