Shauna Mottiar, Senior Researcher in ACCORD’s Knowledge Production Department, attended a workshop at the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) in Pretoria on the 12th of March 2009. The workshop, convened by the HSRC’s Democracy and Governance Unit, aimed to design an appropriate methodology to respond to Xenophobia in South Africa.
Bringing together a group of researchers, government officials and practitioners, the workshop paved the way forward with discussions on types of conflict underpinning Xenophobia, their causal factors and indicators for them and the subsequent victims and possible benefactors of Xenophobia.
Following the discussions, the workshop began the process of formulating a possible conflict process model for Xenophobia in order to identify possible points of intervention and possible sources of response in order to mitigate and resolve Xenophobic related conflict in South Africa.
