ACCORD discusses global developments with Burundian and Indian delegations

On 12 November 2008 the Executive Director of ACCORD, Vasu Gounden, provided a presentation on current global developments and their impact on Africa to a delegation of senior members from the Government of Burundi and senior officers from the College of Defence Management (CDM) from Secunderabad in India.

The delegation from the Government of Burundi was in Durban undergoing training as part of ACCORD’s contribution to the development and establishment of an Office for Strategic Studies and Development within the Government of Burundi.

CDM is India’s leading centre of excellence in management studies in the Indian Armed Forces, providing defence management education to senior and tertiary level officers from three services: para-military forces, officers of the Ministry of Defence and friendly foreign countries. The curriculum includes an in-depth study in all contemporary management disciplines with an aim to train Indian Armed Force Officers (Colonels/Captains [Indian Navy]/Group Captains and their equivalents from the allied services of India) for increased responsibility through a programme of studies in National Security and Higher Defence Management Strategy. The delegates were on a study tour of South Africa to gain international exposure as well as to learn contemporary best practices for effective and efficient higher level defence management that included strategic thinking and transformational leadership.
