The Founder and Executive Director of ACCORD, Vasu Gounden, was invited to attend a Elite and Public Values Survey Briefing – “Tracking the Pulse of the Elite and Public in South Africa” hosted by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) Foundation in association with the Democracy Development Programme (DDP) in Durban on the 22 August 2008.
The findings of the above survey were presented by Prof. Hennie Kotzé, Research Fellow at the Centre for International and Comparative Politics (University of Stellenbosch) and Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Science at the University of Stellenbosch. The briefing was specifically for the civil society sector.
KAS organizers a series of Elite and Public Values Survey Workshops for different target groups, such as civil society, politicians, business and the media, with the aim of providing them with relevant extracts of survey findings and trends. The above survey provided insights into the elite’s perceptions of democracy and delivery issues in South Africa, as well as assessing the level of congruence between the values and expectations of the mass public (measured by the World Values Survey) and those highlighted by South Africa’s leaders in the form of policy outcomes.
