ACCORD held a four-day virtual training on conflict analysis for members of its online network, ACCNET, from 16–19 December 2024. The training aimed to strengthen participants’ ability to effectively analyse conflicts and apply conflict analysis tools in programme design.
Following a call for applications, 30 participants were selected, representing academia, civil society, and government institutions from various countries across the African continent. The training equipped the participants with practical knowledge and tools to assess conflict dynamics, connecting conflict analysis with programme design and improving their ability to create effective peacebuilding interventions. Through interactive case studies, participants learned how to apply these tools to both real and simulated conflict situations.
Participants highlighted the insights gained from the training, particularly in understanding the root causes of conflicts and the influence of relationships in either escalating or resolving tensions. Through interactive discussions and case studies, they explored how power dynamics affect conflict analysis. In addition, the training helped the participants to understand the complexity of conflicts and the importance of context-specific interventions. Several attendees also shared that the training on ACCNET enhanced their analytical skills, particularly in designing proactive strategies for mitigation and resolution.
ACCNET, an online platform initiated by ACCORD for sharing knowledge and information among its members, aims to build a strong network of diverse peacebuilding stakeholders committed to advancing both individual and institutional efforts for sustainable peace. Trainings provided on this platform contribute to ACCORD’s strategic objective of enhancing local and national capacities for conflict prevention, mitigation, and resolution.
