On 21 January 2025 an ACCORD Senior Political Advisor, H.E. Ambassador Djinnit Said, participated as one of the key briefers during the UNSC’s high-level open debate on counter-terrorism in Africa. He was joined by H.E. Amina Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General of the UN , and H.E. Commissioner Bankole Adeoye, the African Union Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace, and Security.
The debate, held under the theme “African-led and Development-Focused Counter-Terrorism: Strengthening African Leadership and Implementation of Counterterrorism Initiatives,” was chaired by H.E. Ahmed Attaf, the Algerian Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs (Algeria holds the Presidency of the UNSC for January 2025.)
The discussion highlighted the growing challenges of counter-terrorism on the Continent, and emphasised the need for collaborative strategies to address the evolving threats to peace and security.
