The Founder and Executive Director of ACCORD, Vasu Gounden, was invited to attend the 6th Oslo Forum, which was co-hosted by the Royal Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue. It was held from the 24th to the 26th of June 2008 in Oslo, Norway.
Launched in 2003, the Forum is a leading gathering of senior third party conflict mediators and key peace process actors to share their experiences, identify challenges and to reflect on their own and others’ practice in a discreet setting and informal atmosphere. The aim of the process is to improve practice in conflict mediation and to enhance its reputation and status as a profession. In addition to the annual gathering in Oslo, the process also includes regional retreats that focus on specific issues in mediating conflict in Asia and Africa, among others.
The focus for this year’s Forum was on the challenging environment in which mediators are operating.
