Neo Letswalo was a Climate Peace and Security Intern within ACCORD’s Research Unit. He is also a Research Associate at the 4IR and Digital Policy Research Unit at the Department of Politics and International Relations, University of Johannesburg. He served in a number of roles, including most recently as a Research Assistant for the “Implementing Africa’s Digital Policy Agenda” published by the Africa Policy Research Institute (APRI). He was also a Research fellow and Socioeconomic Policy Advisor at the Fisha Foundation.
In 2021 and 2022, he was selected for the University of Johannesburg (UJ) – China Emerging Scholar Scholarship and the Digital Humanities OER Champion respectively. He presented his conference paper titled Digital Sovereignty: A Protection or Gateway for Digital Authoritarianism at the 2021 4th Governance Seminar Series hosted by the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) in Kenya, Nairobi.
Neo Letswalo holds a Bachelor of Arts in Politics and International Relations, an Honours Degree, and a Master’s Degree in Arts: Research Dissertation in Politics and International Relations (Cum Laude) at the University of Johannesburg. He holds a certificate in Global Diplomacy: United Nations and the World from the University of London. He is currently a PhD candidate at the Department of Politics and International Relations, University of Johannesburg. His thesis explores Unsustainable Sustainability: Africa’s Industrialization in the New Green Deal. He published various op-ed articles and a book titled TheTownship Economic Mistakes. His research interests include; Internet governance, Climate Change and Sustainability in Africa, Globalization, and the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR).
