ACCORD hosts a gender-sensitive conflict management, prevention and resolution training

ACCORD

Working towards the peaceful electoral participation of women in Zimbabwe

From 28 – 30 March 2023, ACCORD in collaboration with UN Women Zimbabwe and the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission (NPRC) organised a Gender-Sensitive Conflict Management, Prevention and Resolution Training in Harare, Zimbabwe.

This training comes at a time were general elections are expected to be held in Zimbabwe, and there is need to strengthen and build on ongoing interventions to promote peace using pre-existing infrastructures.

UN Women and ACCORD have been collaborating since 2010 on capacitating women’s networks and peace actors on Conflict Management, Prevention and Resolution. Following the virtual gender sensitive trainings in 2022, recommendations were made for more trainings in preparation for the upcoming 2023 elections.

With representatives from the NPRC, the Zimbabwe Council of Churches, FemWise Zimbabwe local chapter and the African Women Leaders Network (AWLN) Zimbabwe, this in-person training strengthened the participants’ capacities to address and mitigate violence during electoral processes from a gendered perspective. These structures have been utilised in previous plebiscites and are much anticipated to be strengthened during the upcoming elections.

This training was in support of UN Women’s Goal for Elections Programming towards a safer, violent-free, elections environment for women by promoting frameworks on Women, Peace and Security; and amplifying the voices of women towards their meaningful political participation. ACCORD remains committed to strengthening key national actors in their efforts to mitigate conflict at the national level.
