Philip Visser

Philip brings 25+ years of experience as a reflective peacebuilding practitioner, working in active conflict, humanitarian and political transitional contexts.

He combines grounded experience, technical quality, academic knowledge and exceptional conceptual and strategic thinking with personal values of fairness, integrity, humility, gender sensitivity and respect for diversity.

His career started in his home country, South Africa, working as a fieldworker and senior manager for a local anti-apartheid NGO during the crucial political transition of the 1990s. Since, he worked across South East Asia, Nepal, Yemen and several countries in East Africa, with the UN and as government advisor on local peace infrastructure, social cohesion, conflict sensitive development, dialogue and post-conflict civic education.

He obtained a Masters degree in Conflict Analysis and Resolution from George Mason University, USA in 1989.

Philip joined ACCORD in July 2021 as Manager: Applied Knowledge and Learning to oversee the strategic development of ACCORD as the premier centre for applied peacebuilding knowledge and learning on the continent.
