ACCORD’s Elections Programme will host a three day capacity building workshop for electoral stakeholders in Luanda, from 7-9 June 2006. Approximately 35 electoral stakeholders from government, civil society and the media will be sensitized on their roles and responsibilities in preparation for the elections – with special emphasis on the management of election-related conflicts.
The workshop will include a comparative study of conflict management mechanisms applicable in difficult political conditions, including an exchange of experiences from the region and the continent as a whole. The workshop will also explore election-related conflicts, discuss problems encountered in other countries, develop strategies for dealing with conflict, and review relevant best practices.
Based on the findings of the consultation meetings held with electoral stakeholders in March this year, ACCORD has developed a content programme and appropriate training materials for the three day capacity building workshop on effective management of election-related conflicts. Training materials have been translated from English to Portuguese. The capacity building workshop forms the second phase of election related conflict mitigation activities for Angola.
