On 20 August 2007 ACCORD Staff went on a team building exercise to see the movie Chak de India. The movie was sponsored by the Avalon Group (Nu Metro CineCentre at SunCoast).
ACCORD has taken it’s staff to see a number of movies that deal with complex human relationship issues that include stereotyping, misperceptions, lack of communication, leadership and decision making. They are either issues that can very easily cause conflict and distrust or which portray decision making under pressure. Some of the other movies which Staff have seen include Crash, Babel, Lumumba, Thirteen Days and Blood Diamond. The Executive Director of ACCORD, Vasu Gounden, has also used some of these movies in his training sessions to highlight specific issues related to conflict management or leadership skills. Since ACCORD’s work focuses on dealing with individuals, in a variety of environments, the lessons to be gained from such movies can prove to be quite valuable.
