On 4 December 2017 the Executive Director was invited to be a resource person at the South Africa in Africa Workshop and Seminar Series, which was co-hosted by the Security Institute for Governance and Leadership in Africa (SIGLA) based within the Faculty of Military Science at the University of Stellenbosch, and the Royal Danish Defence College (RDDC). The title of the roundtable discussion, which was held at the residence of the Danish Ambassador to South Africa, H.E. Ambassador Trine Thygesen; was “South African leadership in Africa – from ideas to actual implementation”.
This seminar focused on what characterises contemporary South African foreign policy, and the kind of role the country could be expected to play in the future. Due to South Africa’s role in Africa this could have an effect on the future development of the AU, and its role as the security government manager of the Continent. The seminar brought together a selected number of academics, practitioners and decision-makers based in South Africa.
