The Founder and Executive Director of ACCORD, Vasu Gounden, was invited to be a resource person at a “Security Sector Reform (SSR) and Governance” meeting between Sweden and South Africa. The meeting which was hosted by the Swedish National Defence College (SNDC) and the Folke Bernadotte Academy in Västerhaninge, Sweden, from 1-2 October.
The meeting was attended by about fifty government representatives from Swedish and South African government departments, as well as experts from various research institutes and NGOs.
Mr. Gounden was involved in a number of pre-meetings that were hosted by the Swedish Embassy in Pretoria in preparation for this meeting. These meetings also included ACCORD hosting members of a Swedish delegation headed by Mikael Wilhelmsson, the Administrative Director at the Department for Security and Strategic Studies at the SNDC, at ACCORD House, where they met with ACCORD staff and learnt more about ACCORD’s current and future SSR activities.
