As part of the partnership arrangement between ACCORD and the Department of Peace and Conflict Research at Uppsala University in Sweden, ACCORD is participating in Uppsala’s high-level programme on Conflict Resolution and Challenges to Successful Peace Building in Africa (Top Level Seminar on Peace and Security – TOPS).
The seminar is taking place in Uppsala from 10-19 October, and is sponsored by Sida.
Pravina Makan-Lakha, General Manager: Operations will be a resource person during the seminar and will present a lecture and facilitate discussions during the programme around the topic of ‘Mitigating the Security Dilemma: African Experiences of Peacekeeping Operations, DDR and SSR.’ This is the second TOPS seminar Ms. Makan-Lakha is presenting at this year, she previously gave a presentation during the seminar in May 2007. The overall theme of the programme in May focused on peace processes in intra-state or regional conflicts. The purpose was to identify various challenges to successful war termination and peace building. In particular, the programme aimed to identify the role of organizations (national and international, governmental and non-governmental) in this process. The second seminar in October has the main theme and focus on exploring challenges to durable peace after war in Africa.
