From 29 October to 1 November, ACCORD’s Angola Intervention presented a seminar to develop a monitoring and evaluation system for peace-building initiatives in Angola and other post-conflict countries.
The Seminar took place at the Burgers Park Hotel in Pretoria and eighteen participants from Angola, Mozambique, Uganda and Zimbabwe attended.
The seminar facilitated discussions between, amongst others, conflict management practitioners, human rights experts and gender activists on the various indicators that will form the system. The following groups of indicators were discussed:
- Concepts and definitions;
- Needs assessment;
- Project formulation;
- Project implementation;
- Project monitoring and evaluation; and
- Lessons learned.
The deliberations at the seminar resulted in a draft document that will be further developed as well as tested during several upcoming peace-building interventions in Angola. The final version of the system will be available in both English and Portuguese.
